2012 Camp Workshops

Rock and roll camp isn’t just about the music, we also learn and create some really cool stuff. Below is a list of the Empowerment workshops you can choose from if you sign up for camp.
Note: not all workshops are available each year.

Music THEIRstory

Learn your roots! This workshop is a summary of women and men in music, focusing on empowering all artists regardless of gender or race. Participants will examine the marginalization of women and artists of color throughout music history and learn about influential artists that challenged the status quo.

Songwriting

This workshop focuses on the musical and lyrical art of collaborative songwriting, giving campers the tools they need to write and prepare songs for the showcase.

Recording

This workshop is great for campers interested in learning to record on their own. It will explore various techniques of the recording process while considering low budget and avant-garde techniques of capturing sound.

Music Photography

This workshop teaches campers how to photograph bands playing live as well as in the studio. The music photography workshop will explore the technical and artistic aspects of photography while providing students with a valuable skill.

DIY Arts and Crafts

In this do-it-yourself arts workshop, campers work on different craft projects each day. Previous projects include guitar straps, books, and gig bags.

Screenprinting

This workshop is great for kids who are interested in visual arts and design. The screenprinting workshop will provide campers with skills to create their own band t-shirts, fliers and patches.

Science of Music

How does and electric guitar work? How does a microphone work? How does MUSIC work? Learn this and much more in the brand new Science of Music Workshop. This workshop will give campers a crash course in the science behind music and how different instruments and audio equipment create and amplify sound. This workshop is ideal for campers who might be interested in the production side of music. The Science of Music will empower campers to pursue science as well as music by showing them how science is an integral part of art.
